Friends of Undugu Family of Hope
Welcome!
Friends of Undugu Family of Hope is a group of people working together to support Undugu Family of Hope, a community-based organization in Kibera, Kenya that provides food and educational opportunities for orphans and children living in extreme poverty in Kibera, the biggest slum in Kenya. Undugu means "Brotherhood" and this ecumenical work is certainly a brotherhood of like-minded loving people seeking the good of children born in poverty. Our goal is to help build stability and hope for the children supported by Undugu Family of Hope by providing secure and sustainable revenue to meet feeding, education, and vocational needs.
Friends of Undugu Family of Hope was born during the pandemic when Tami and Edwin began communicating over FB messenger. Tami was already donating to Friends of Undugu through the Bill Cook Foundation which she learned about from a high school friend. Tami decided to raise auxiliary funds for Undugu Family of Hope when she learned of the dire food shortage in Kibera caused by the pandemic and found out that it only cost $20/day to feed over 100 children. At that time, Tami sought to gather together 30 friends to donate $20/month to feed the children. Soon, other needs were made apparent...and the organization has grown to support these needs including education funds, emergency funds, and the creation of a new baking school in February, 2023.
